Staff Representative / Organizer

CWA Local 1040 presents over 7,000 workers throughout the State of New Jersey including, State, Local, Public and Private Sector. We demand respect and dignity for our members. You will work under the direction of the President of Local.

The following examples of work are for illustrative purposes only. It does not represent a complete listing of all work, which is appropriate for the title. Examples of work:

1. The responsibilities of this title will include, but not limited to, providing the necessary leadership for the accomplishment of the Local and Union programs.
2. Carryout the policies of the Local and the Union in all fields, especially the representation of Union members, educating, mobilizing, political and legislative activities and initiatives.
3. Interview and collect data needed for the proper defense of CWA workers in work sites represented by Local1040.
4. Meet and confer with Local 1040 workers on job related problems. Give advice and assistance concerning possible employment and other problems.
5. Plan and carry out on-site meetings with members and non-members.
6. Prepare correspondence, including but not limited to appeal and legal requests.
7. Attend conferences, workshops and meetings to maintain an adequate level of proficiency.
8. Defend members in grievances and disciplinary hearings up to the Department Level.
9. Assist Principle Staff Representative, Senior Staff Representative, Administrative Assistant, National Staff Representatives and Attorneys in the preparation of cases for mediation, arbitration, and the Department of Personnel.

Experience
Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors degree in a labor related field or extensive experience and demonstrated ability in labor relations.

Note:
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience in labor relations on a year for year basics as determined by the President; Labor organizer related work.

License
Must possess a driver’s license validated in New Jersey at all time.
