The 1.3-million-member United Food Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW), a powerful voice for working men and women, is seeking a Creative Content Designer who will not only create digital content including video, graphic, and text social media posts, they will also engage and help expand UFCW’s social media communities across multiple social media platforms with big-picture content strategy & bold storytelling that amplifies the voices of workers that we represent in new and exciting ways.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
This role has significant responsibility for maintaining UFCW’s voice and message on public platforms. They must also identify creative ways to express UFCW’s brand and strengthen the union’s social media presence.

Additionally, this role will help to execute the communications department’s email programming and service member requests that come in through social media.

This position will guide adoption of new technology, digital products and process across the department, and organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the Assistant Director of Digital with creative strategy and long-term planning.
  • Creates original video and graphic content for use in UFCW’s digital platforms that engages audiences and builds followers.
  • Assists Assistant Director of Digital in managing member communications program including: email and text messaging and digital newsletters.
  • Creates content for mini-campaigns to increase engagement with activists and UFCW supporters online.
  • Develops guides and tip sheets to help spread best practices to Local Unions communications staff.
  • Keeps current on emerging technology, design tastes, social community trends. Seeks out professional learning opportunities and maintaining knowledge of professional “best practices” in design and content development.
  • Helps with onboarding and increasing adaption of communication tools by Local Unions.
  • Monitors UFCW’s social media platforms for engagement and helps service requests and questions submitted through social platforms.
  • Seizes opportunities to coordinate with other digital teams and creative designers at allied groups and organizations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in digital communications, videography, graphic design, digital marketing, public relations, or social media strategy. Experience writing, designing and editing content for public audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive and execute visually engaging digital designs and effective motion graphics and videos.
  • Experience with content strategy for social media, particularly demonstrated ability to grow audiences with engaging content on a variety of social channels, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & beyond.
  • Is committed to learning and enjoys personal professional development. Self-starter, good at identifying opportunities to improve their work and their organizations’ reach.
  • Results-oriented, able to link content strategy to communications goals and use metric and performance data to inform creative content.
  • Strong social communications and presentation skills.
  • Proven videography, video editing, motion design/animation, photography, photo editing and general graphic design skills.
  • Fluency in professional print and web design standards and principles.
  • Expert knowledge of a wide variety of multimedia software such as, but not limited to: full Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, Pro Tools audio editing.
  • Experience using email builder (such as MailChimp, Action Network) and basic HTML knowledge a plus.
  • Must be a team player, with a positive attitude, who enjoys collaborative work environments.
  • Capable of managing sensitive and high-risk online environments/communities.
  • Experience managing partnerships and coordinating with outside organizations a plus.
