Job Title: Communications Administrative Assistant
40 Hours Per Week; 8 am – 4:30 pm

Starting Rate: $17.85 Per Hour

JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of this position include: Creating Digital Content for our website and social media platform, answering phones, proofreading, copying, filing, doing communication mailings along with some data entry. This position requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times. Applicants must be flexible and willing to work additional hours when needed.

ASSIGNMENT: Daily work assignment and direction given by Director of Operations.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Office Support Position

  1. Creating content for our website and social media platform
  2. Answer phones, assist members, greet visitors.
  3. Create/type/copy/mail/distribute all forms of correspondence(mail/email/text/phone/newsletter)/petitions/reports as requested by Local 284 staff.
  4. Proofread contracts.
  5. Maintain historical files.
  6. Maintain website, Facebook and templates.
  7. Logistics for events, meetings and trainings.

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE

Special Knowledge or Skills:

  1. Proficiency in writing, word processing and communications.
  2. Technical knowledge of Word Press and social media platforms.
  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  4. Good human relations skills.

Equipment, Machines, Tools, Electronic Devices, Software:

  1. Posting to websites and social media platforms, computer, printer, scanner, calculator, copy machine, fax machine, postage machine.
  2. Software includes, but is not limited to: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Power Point, E-mail, Publisher, Word Press and Internet.

Mental Involvement:

  1. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet strict deadlines.
  2. Ability to respond to or make quick decisions.
  3. Exercises a high level of confidentiality in handling Union and member information.
  4. Ability to handle multiple tasks at once while dealing with constant interruptions.
  5. Ability to think and plan strategically.
  6. Ability to plan work independently.

Physical Involvement:

  1. Requires extended periods of sitting.
  2. Frequent repetitive action on keyboard.
  3. Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
  4. Requires some bending, stooping to reach file drawers.

Working Conditions: Flexibility and willingness to work additional hours when required.

Supervision of Other Employees: None

MIMUMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Two or more years of office clerical experience preferred. Prior school district work experience and SEIU Local 284 union activism is helpful.
