Experience External Organizer

Based in Houston, TX

SEIU Texas unites janitors, food service workers, hospital employees and county/municipal employees from across our state.

We are now hiring an Experience Organizer to join SEIU Texas, dedicated to build power for working families in a right to work state.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work with diverse team and diverse group of workers in a right to work environment.
• Identify and develop leaders to take action/mobilize in their workplace, community, political and any external campaigns.
• Grow membership by organizing workers into the Union.
• Maintain accurate and detailed information on worksites and track individuals’ info and assignments.
• Work with leaders and committees to educate, agitate and motivate people to action.
• Participate effectively on a team of organizers and researchers to plan and implement new worker organizing & issue-driven community based social justice campaigns.
• Other duties that may not be included in this job description as required by organization

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum of 2 years experience leading staff and campaign strategy.
• Commitment to social justice.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually.
• Willingness to work long and irregular hours.
• Experience and knowledge of computer programs is a plus (including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet and database software).
• Driver’s license and reliable car.
• Previous experience in union organizing preferred.
