The Partnership for Working Families (Partnership) is a national network of leading regional advocacy organizations who drive a vision and agenda of just, sustainable, and democratic communities. Our network builds powerful, governing coalitions with a grassroots base of leaders to:

  • Restructure our economy to advance economic, racial and gender justice;
  • Reshape our built environment to create healthier communities and slow climate change; and
  • Remake our democracy through organizing, civic engagement and leadership development.

The Partnership and its seven California affiliates have launched a new strategic statewide network. Together, they are building long-term power for workers and communities statewide and in critical regions covering two-thirds of all Californians. Key areas of focus include:

  • Growing worker power, community benefits, climate justice, and democratic accountability in California’s massive goods movement sector;
  • Advancing housing justice to build the power of tenants, low-income residents, and workers;
  • Developing campaigns and leadership at the intersection of race, gender, and economic justice to shift power to marginalized communities; and
  • Providing leadership as a co-convener of the California Alliance for Secure Employment (CASE), a partnership of organizations building a stakeholder base, visionary platform, and campaigns to cut new paths to justice and power for workers facing increasing insecurity in our economy.

We are seeking an experienced campaigner and coalition organizer to join our team. We are open to this being a manager or senior lead position and invite candidates to apply for the level that matches your experience and skill set.

Responsibilities

  • The California Campaign Manager/Lead will play a critical role in taking our statewide network to the next level of momentum and cohesion. The person in this position will drive our campaigns and programs, engaging affiliates and allies and leading the work groups that power our innovation and impact; they will also staff CASE through its next critical phase of establishing, building momentum for, and acting upon its agenda.
  • Campaign and program management:
    • Support the development of comprehensive statewide and translocal campaigns as described above.
    • Coordinate development of policy proposals and engagement of key stakeholders to support campaign goals.
    • Provide ongoing strategic thinking, monitoring, and adaptation to seek new opportunities to drive campaigns/programs forward and to address obstacles as they arise in real time; proactively identify and implement concrete projects/tactics to advance campaign goals.
    • Support the Communications Director in executing communications strategies.
    • Coordinate development of research and publications to support campaigns.
  • Network/coalition development and coordination:
    • Schedule meetings, design agendas, and provide meeting facilitation for the California Partnership network and for CASE.
    • Organize each Partnership affiliate work group and CASE subcommittee to develop a work plan outlining strategies and priorities, phases and benchmarks, responsibilities, timelines, evaluation, etc., building unity and maintain positive relationships with key affiliate staff/committee members.
    • Oversee and manage the implementation of these work plans, monitor deadlines and budget, day-to-day coordination and documentation of activities, manage changes, etc.
    • Build strong and effective partnerships with each affiliate and a deep understanding of their organizational goals and strategies. Build the cohesion, connectedness, and shared power of the network.
  • Relationship building:
    • Represent the network at events and meetings; build partnerships with movement allies and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Events:
    • Organize events that support network goals, including conference workshops, convenings, press events, publication releases and the like.
  • Fundraising:
    • Participate in the development of fundraising plans, the writing of grant applications and reports, and other funder engagement and communication.

Qualifications

  • Values-aligned with network’s mission and work, including commitment to economic, climate, gender, and racial justice.
  • Manager candidates should have 5+ years of directly applicable campaign, project, or coalition management and Lead candidates should have 3-4 years of directly applicable experience with campaigns, coalition/network building, worker or community organizing, strategic research, strategic communications, public policy, and/or civic engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead groups through complex collaborative work in a way that produces alignment around a strategic agenda, builds stakeholder buy-in, and strengthens the network/coalition, including the ability to design and facilitate meetings, ensure ongoing communication and coordination, manage conflict, hold people accountable for commitments, and evaluate.
  • Demonstrated ability to build ground-up campaigns with grassroots-based coalitions that shift major policy or sectors of the economy.
  • Demonstrated ability and organizational skills to carry out campaign events and other tactics
  • Excellent project management skills including self-starting, developing plans, troubleshooting, and balancing urgent/short-term work with longer-term strategic work.
  • Experience with organized labor or ability to develop partnerships with labor.
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills and computer skills (spreadsheets, databases, document design, and presentations).
  • Ability to travel monthly required.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in California.
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following: work and employment; housing, transportation, and development; organizing; climate policy; corporate campaigning.

Compensation And Location
This is a full-time position. We offer a competitive starting salary between $65,000-70,000 for senior leads and $70,000-83,000 for managers (based on experience) and generous benefits, including covering full health benefit premiums (health, dental and vision) and a 401k plan with an employer contribution.

The position will ideally be located in a city in which a one of the Partnership’s seven California affiliates is located, but we will consider exceptional candidates who are located in other cities.
