Political & Legislative Director

Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Monitoring legislation across the labor council’s jurisdictions, conducting research on policies and issues, and drafting testimony (5%) (D.C. + Montgomery, Prince George’s, St. Mary’s, Charles, & Calvert Counties)
- Staffing 3 COPE Committees and COPE Chairs (15%) (D.C., Montgomery/Prince George’s, Tri-County)
- Coordination of candidate and issue endorsement processes, including developing candidate questionnaires, a member-driven interview process, and making recommendations on candidate endorsements and contributions (15%)
- Coordination of campaign activity for endorsed candidates (10%)
- Building political capacity of affiliated locals to mobilize activists and run campaigns (20%)
- Developing/guiding legislative and political coalitions/campaigns (10%)
- Technical assistance to affiliated local unions (15%)
- Coordination with other staff, including Union Cities/Campaigns Organizer/CSA/CAP staff on mobilization activities and other MWC priorities (10%)
