Communication Manager

Based in Albany, NY

NYS LECET, part of the New York State Laborers Tri-Funds representing more than 40,000 union members across New York State, has pioneered the concept of labor-management cooperation as the most productive way to expand work opportunities and market share for Laborers and their affiliated contractors. Two priorities for NYS LECET are promoting job opportunities for our members and contractors and rigorous enforcement of prevailing wage and other labor protection laws. The full-time Communications Manager is responsible for all internal and external communications for NYS LECET. The ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks is vital to this position. As the communications manager for the organization, excellent writing and verbal skills are required.

DUTIES:

  • Will build and drive communication plans in collaboration with program Executive Director and will have a collection of issues for which they are primarily responsible.
  • Strong writing skills – including talking points, op-eds, speeches, press releases, blog and newsletter items, as well as social media content.
  • Write and design flyers, newsletters, magazine content, digital media, email blasts and other communications targeted toward labor members.
  • Producing communication content including keeping files related to the communications function.
  • Produce and develop strategic content calendars for social media that promotes the vision of the organization. (Must have a strong knowledge of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter)
  • Redesign and update the New York State Laborers website and keep current with fresh content.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Four (4) years of college
  • Experience: 7 years of experience in a relevant field of communications.
  • Proven ability to absorb and gather new information and turn around projects quickly and effectively.
  • Develop and implement rapid response communications plans reactive to urgent conditions
  • Experience developing and implementing strategy for campaigns, such as community organizing, political, and legislative campaigns.
  • Issue advocacy or public policy experience including online engagement campaigns preferred.
  • Monitor and research local, state and national news for possible media opportunities.
  • Coordinate with outside agency to craft television, radio, print, digital and other advertising campaigns as appropriate to support legislative or political priorities.
  • Strong digital communication skills are essential
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with diverse groups and populations.
  • Strong organizational/project management skills preferred.
  • Manage and oversee staff assigned to internal and external communications and marketing. Collaborate closely with management.
  • Occasional travel required.
