Assistant Contributions Compliance Manager

Based in Washington, DC

Annual Pay: $83,217/YR

Purpose
The SEIU Benefit Funds administers multiple benefit funds in a fast-paced environment. The position is responsible for overseeing the tracking and posting of all employer contributions for the SEIU Benefit Funds’ defined benefit pension plans. This position also oversees the compliance of all collective bargaining agreements and is responsible for the reporting and collection of delinquencies.

Primary Responsibilities: Perform a wide range of duties, including but not limited to the following:

  • Oversees and monitors collective bargaining agreements and ensures that the negotiated language is in compliance with legislative requirements and Plan rules.
  • Prepares reports to the Trustees.
  • Works with the Actuarial Consultants on such matters as the calculation of Past Service Benefit Levels, Past Service purchases, plan mergers, and withdrawal liability.
  • Acts as a liaison with bargaining parties regarding the NIPF during contract negotiations. Travels to employer sites when necessary to make presentations or to resolve collective bargaining issues.
  • Assists the Contributions Compliance Manager in overseeing preparation of the pension adjustments to be included on the T-4 Forms for the Canadian defined benefit plans.
  • Oversees the tracking, posting, and collection of audit delinquencies and ensures that the delinquencies are properly credited to employer and participants’ accounts.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the mission of the SEIU Benefit Funds.

Direction and Decision Making:
This position reports to the Contributions Compliance Manager and works independently.)

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or other related field and four (4) years of collections/compliance experience, and two (2) years management experience preferably in a union environment or a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of pension plans and unions or other advocacy organizations.
  • Thorough knowledge of cash basis and accrual basis financial systems.
  • Knowledge of modern electronic accounting practices and principles.
  • Well developed interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong leadership skills, ability to manage and develop staff members.
  • Ability to multi-task and track the progress of numerous projects and reports meeting established deadlines.
  • Ability to design and implement short and long-term tasks and goals for the department.
  • Ability to produce work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to maintain flexible attitude and approach toward assignments while actively participating and supporting a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong diplomatic, discretionary and problem-solving skills.
  • Must maintain ethical conduct.
  • Advanced skills in the use of personal computers using database, spreadsheets and word processing software or other SEIU Benefit Funds software, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in an office setting but may be required to work in other settings conducive to performing the tasks required to complete assignments.

Travel and overtime required as deemed necessary by upper level management (up to 25%).
