Organizational Overview
The Worker-driven Social Responsibility Network (WSRN) focuses on ending abuses against workers in corporate supply chains in the United States and globally. Network members are committed to a worker-driven social responsibility model that prioritizes enforcement of legally binding agreements and worker leadership in the design and implementation of social responsibility programs. The goals of the Network are to:

  • Promote and build demand in key constituencies and workers’ organizations for the WSR model in corporate supply chains
  • Support grassroots worker and human rights organizations seeking to establish a WSR program in global supply chains through consultation, tools, shared learning and technical assistance.
  • Amplify and strengthen existing efforts through coordination, information sharing and collective action.

Position Overview and Responsibilities
The Director of Outreach and Communications will coordinate the WSRN’s outreach strategy to practitioners and advocates as well as develop public education and capacity-building tools for the field of workers’ rights in global supply chains. Furthermore, the Director of Outreach and Communications will guide and implement the communications strategy for the WSRN, engaging with a diverse public audience through traditional and digital media. Additional responsibilities include organizing network convenings and developing membership programs and related network infrastructure. The Director of Outreach and Communications will also track developments in the fields of corporate social responsibility, business and human rights, workers’ rights, multi-stakeholder initiatives, and corporate accountability.

The WSRN is anchored by the National Economic and Social Rights Initiative (NESRI). All WSRN staff are employed and supervised by NESRI; work priorities are set by the WSRN Coordinating Committee. This position can be based out of NESRI’s New York office or conducted remotely.

Qualities Sought

  • Knowledge of and experience in the field of workers’ rights;
  • 3-5 years of professional experience preferred;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Experience working effectively with grassroots and partner organizations;
  • Experience successfully navigating complex partnerships, and ability to connect with a wide range of diverse constituencies;
  • Track-record of leading and/or implementing projects including planning, execution, and evaluation of lessons learned;
  • An outstanding facility to effectively communicate with public audiences, especially through digital and media outlets, and public speaking;
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in fast-paced, high-energy environment;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines;
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
