Lead Organizer
Based in the Baltimore-Washington DC Metropolitan Area
Workers United is an International Union with a rich history of organizing manufacturing, distribution and service workers throughout the US and Canada. We are now involved in some exciting organizing campaigns in our Mid-Atlantic Region and we are looking for a talented Lead Organizer to work with us.
Qualifications:
A qualified candidate must be:
- A proven leader
- Able to motivate and lead a small team of organizers and a worker organizing committee.
- An effective communicator – oral and written (Bilingual a plus)
- A skilled listener
- Willing to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends
- Capable of building relationships with member organizers and workers from diverse backgrounds
- Willing to travel in Maryland, Washington DC, Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia as needed
- In possession of valid driver’s license
- 100% committed to social, economic and racial justice
- Someone with at least 2 years of organizing experience (labor, student, political, community etc.) required. 1-2 years of union organizing experience strongly preferred
- Comfortable with taking calculated risks
Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Mentoring, developing and leading internal and volunteer organizers
- Moving workers to action through one-on-one conversations and meetings
- Helping craft and implement winning campaign plans
- Assisting individual organizers to create and follow a professional development plan
- Accurately gauging worker support for a campaign
- Maintaining and/or supervising the maintenance of charts and campaign data systems
- Facilitating organizing committee and shift meetings
- Building tactical relationships with community allies and other labor groups as needed
- Producing quality written campaign materials
Salary is competitive and negotiable based on experience
