Job overview: The ILWU local 6 Dues/Data Entry Clerk working in our Dues Department under the supervision of the Secretary Treasurer.  It is a critical member of the front desk staff.  This position requires in person and over the phone member assistance in both Spanish and English. The Dues Clerk is also expected to be good with money, as much of the job entails processing checks, cash, credit card transactions, some check off payments and assist with other duties when call upon.

Specific job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Must be fluent in Spanish and English
  • Cash handling, while providing excellent customer service to our members.
  • Must know how to use Microsoft word, Excel, Outlook, and Union accounting.
  • Data Entry
  • Run Reports
  • Perform usual operations in an office environment.
  • Carrying out other special projects as identified by the secretary treasurer and/or office manager.
  • Processing payments in the form of checks, credit cards, EFT, and cash.
  • Mailing out series of letters (omission, delinquent, termination, reinstatement, pensioner letters) and receipts to members, daily.
  • Over the phone assistance to members as well as payments from members.
  • Updating and adjusting members accounts when necessary.
  • Filing member and company information around office.
  • Maintain office copier/fax machines by keeping paper trays filled.

Qualifications and skills should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with HP computers and systems such as Microsoft, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, good math and typing skills (minimum of 40WPM) and 10 key by touch
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills; multi-tasker, self-motivated, energetic, quick learner and problem solver
  • Charismatic and friendly
  • Team player who works well with others and adapts to situations
