The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) is seeking applicants to fill one position in the UAW Research Department.

The UAW is a strong advocate for working people at the bargaining table, in the community and in the political arena. We are looking for an analyst with strong qualitative and quantitative skills who wants to put their abilities and experience to use for the good of working people and the labor movement.

Staff in the department are responsible for in-depth analyses and critiques of companies and industries. These analyses are used in bargaining contracts as well as efforts to organize new members. In addition, staff assist in collective bargaining by reviewing financial and labor cost data and using that data to develop and evaluate proposals. The department also researches and evaluates legislative and regulatory issues.

Major responsibilities of this position include:

  • Analysis and interpretation of corporate financial and economic data to support activities of the UAW as well as other issues that affect UAW members.
  • Prepare materials for and give presentations to a wide variety of audiences from union members to members of Congress.
  • Assist other UAW departments in developing and evaluating social, economic and collective bargaining policies and preparing position papers.

Ideal applicants will have some of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and prior research experience in academic, labor, community, or political settings.
  • Strong commitment to social and economic justice, especially in labor issues.
  • Knowledge of labor relations issues in the public and private sector.
  • Knowledge of organizing and contract campaigns.
  • Ability to perform research that requires finding information that may not be readily available.
  • Ability to present statistical data and communicate complicated information effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours when needed.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to work well and creatively under tight deadlines in a team environment and independently.
  • Experience in accounting, finance, economics or engineering.
