The Florida Education Association is the largest professional and labor organization in the state of Florida and represents more than 140,000 school employees. The FEA represents the professional and working interests of its members and plays a prominent role in shaping state policies that affect public schools. The FEA is a merged state association affiliated with both the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).

The FEA seeks a dynamic, high-energy, innovative advocate for public education who embraces the values organizing, member advocacy, and collective bargaining. This leader will provide oversight, direction, and management of FEA field operations under the direction of the Director of Organizing and Field Services. The office of Organizing and Field Services serves 100 local affiliate offices, which are aligned into service units and located throughout the State of Florida. The manager must bring visionary leadership and a focus on building a strong and responsive organizing operation. The Manager must be able to work in a highly supportive and collaborative manner with the Director of Organizing and Field Services, Chief of Staff, FEA’s Executive Officers, and FEA’s management team. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in leading change through internal and external organizing.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or comparable work experience required; an advanced degree and fluency in Spanish would provide added value. Direct experience in areas of internal/external organizing, membership engagement work, member advocacy, and collective bargaining.

Required Experience:
Three (3) to five (5) years of Association Staff/Leadership experience gained through progressively responsible work assignments.</span></span>

  • Strong interpersonal skills and diplomatic approach to managing relationships between local affiliates, service units, and staff from individual contributors to senior/executive leadership.
  • Ability to deal with a geographically diverse organization with autonomous, membership-based operating units.
  • Proven knowledge in internal and external organizing, collective bargaining, grievance processing, arbitration and multiple methods of impasse and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge and understanding of techniques and strategies for the promotion of membership.
  • Demonstrated ability to assume advocacy responsibilities and functions.
  • MS Office skills (Word-Excel-PowerPoint) including skill in working with spreadsheets and budgets required. Demonstrated ability to use other organizing software like Voter Action Network, Hustle, WorkIt, etc.
  • Fosters accountability, proactive decision-making, team-work, and strategic planning.
  • The manager promotes a working environment of excellence, external and internal collaborations, and professional standards for the organization.
  • Expertise in conflict management, and group and individual facilitation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Possess effective public speaking skills with large audiences.
  • Ability to direct organizing, collective bargaining, arbitration programs and supervise Association Staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all departments including legal and public policy advocacy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and processes simultaneously.
