IFPTE Local 21, a leading union for public sector professionals, has an immediate opening for one full-time or two part-time Office Assistant(s) with a strong interest in labor, politics, social justice, and/or organizing. This position is based out of our Oakland and Martinez offices and may require travel between the two offices. We are looking for a hard worker with excellent attention to detail who can perform administrative tasks with minimal oversight. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to growth in a professional labor setting.

Position Description
The primary responsibility of the Office Assistant will be to assist staff representatives and officers in our satellite offices in the East Bay with clerical, administrative and organizing needs. This position assists with worksite and political organizing, contract bargaining, and other field work, and offers introductory exposure in these fields.

Tasks will include:

  • Maintaining one or two organized office spaces
  • Reception duties: answering phone calls and greeting visitors
  • Making regular and special meeting arrangements, including reserving conference rooms and ordering meals, snacks, and beverages
  • Sending and receiving letters and packages
  • Data entry in Salesforce
  • Tracking meeting attendance using Excel
  • Scanning and uploading paper files to an internal server
  • Assist in elections, votes, organizing campaigns, events, and actions, as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of administrative experience
  • Computer literate using a PC with intermediate/high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Salesforce or another database management system
  • Highly organized with a good eye for detail, able to work with minimal direction
  • Professional and calm, comfortable working with a highly diverse group of members and staff
  • Desire to learn and grow as a professional labor advocate
  • Experience working and/or volunteering with a labor organization, non-profit, or political organization highly desired

Salary/Benefits

  • Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, range starts at $31/hr

  • Work-related travel costs covered
