Based in Los Angeles, CA

SEIU 121RN is currently seeking a Lead Organizer to help lead on an exciting campaign to organize Registered Nurses around Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange, and Ventura Counties. The Lead Organizer, under the direction of the Organizing Coordinator/Director, and will work to oversee the team of organizing staff. SEIU 121RN represents over 8,000 nurses and healthcare professionals in Southern California. We have been on the cutting edge of progressive activism, building power for healthcare workers, and leading the way in healthcare reform.

SEIU 121RN has a lead external organizer position available immediately, based in Los Angeles.

SOME KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead staff by example, setting high standards in work ethic and professional approach
  • Participate effectively on a team of organizers and researchers to plan and implement new worker
  • Organizing campaigns, motivate workers and outside supporters to take action.
  • Recruitment and development of workplace leaders and worker committees
  • Work with leaders and committees, identify and develop leaders.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed information on work sites and track individual worker info and
  • assignments
  • As needed, gather information for legal action to protect workers’ rights

SOME OF THE JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment to social justice
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in external organizing campaigns organizing non-union workers
  • Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually
  • Ability to travel to other work sites in California, work long and irregular and extended hours
  • Experience and knowledge of computer programs is a plus (including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet and database software)
  • Driver’s license and reliable car
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese and English is a big plus
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Lead External Organizer (NLRB experience preferred).
