Position Summary
Our San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel, the elected employee organization in the San Antonio Independent School District, is seeking a Digital Organizer. Our union is dedicated to achieving REAL RESULTS for our students and our community. We negotiate with SAISD regarding compensation, benefits, education policies, and working conditions. In addition to our strong local organization, we are affiliated with the National Education Association (NEA), Texas State Teachers Association (TSTA), the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and Texas AFT.

The Communications and Digital Organizer will be responsible for all digital and print communication needed for our Alliance and will work with the Organizing team to develop and execute compelling campaigns. The Organizer will work with the President and Lead Organizer to develop a coordinated, strategic plan for the organization’s communications. The Organizer will craft and optimize content for our Alliance, including email programs, social media channels, and our website to create coordinated and cohesive communications, online and offline. We are looking for someone who loves organizing, working with many different groups, is highly organized, and is a great writer who is comfortable crafting content for various platforms and personalities. The ideal candidate will have experience working on digital campaigns for progressive issues, is passionate about moving people to take meaningful action, and is excited for a fast-paced work environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Write compelling social media, email, and web copy for issue, political, organizing, and other campaigns and projects, including rapid response moments
  • Produce well-written, concise email messaging that supports larger organizational initiatives.
  • Design and execute successful digital campaigns across multiple platforms
  • Update our website with the latest and most relevant actions and information
  • Monitor, update and create original share graphics for organizational profiles on social media platforms.
  • Write, design and produce Alliance print materials including newsletters, fliers, and brochures.
  • Visit campuses and worksites on an as-needed basis for context and to assist with organizing.
  • Assist in media training for members
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to organize high-impact events and moments
  • Brainstorm messaging, tactics, and campaigns around potential organizing issues
  • Track and compile web, email and social networking analytics.
  • Keep a pulse on the latest trends and best practices for digital and integrate them into our online organizing efforts
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to support the union’s objectives.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with course work in communications, journalism, political science, or liberal arts preferred. Relevant work experience in online communications.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

  • Excellent print and email writing skills with a wide range of tone and personality and the ability to condense information and convey it clearly and concisely
  • Demonstrated ability to use online tools to communicate with and motivate target groups to take action, including email, web copy, social media and online video.
  • Experience creating content for online consumption.
  • Experience preferred with Action Network, or other email marketing platforms; social media tools like Tweetdeck; WordPress or other content management systems; Photoshop and/or other graphic design tools a plus
  • Experience using Excel to compile analytics.
  • Ability to work independently and to collaborate and work well with staff at all levels and in a team environment.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and analytical
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Ability to handle heavy workload, juggle competing priorities, and work long hours, as needed, to meet deadlines.
  • Flexibility and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work across-platforms (Mac and Windows OS).
