Campaigns Manager

Based in New York City, NY

Citizen Action of New York, a statewide grassroots organization fighting for social, economic, racial and environmental justice, seeks a high energy, experienced organizer with strong communication and collaboration skills to be our New York City Campaigns Manager. This position is based in Lower Manhattan but involves work throughout the five boroughs and include travel to Albany. The job is a senior staff position that includes leading statewide issue campaigns, coalitions and our New York City Chapter. Responsibilities

Campaigns:

  • Lead or co-coordinate campaigns to win policy change, mostly at the state-level but also local and federal level;
  • Recruit, coordinate and facilitate coalitions related to issue campaigns;
  • Assist in scheduling, facilitating and preparing materials for legislative meetings and grassroots lobbying activities for organizers and leaders;
  • Work in coordination with the press team to implement an earned and social media strategy for campaigns.

Grassroots Organizing/Chapter Building:

  • In coordination with statewide staff and collaboration with Citizen Action’s New York City grassroots leadership, develop local strategic plans to win campaign goals using proven social change techniques, including coalition building, direct action organizing, electoral strategies, direct and grassroots lobbying drives;
  • Supervise and work in partnership with community organizing staff and members to build a powerful grassroots base in directly impacted communities to win concrete racial, social, environmental and economic justice changes at the local, state and federal level.
  • Recruit, train, develop and support grassroots members into meaningful leadership roles within the organizational structure including on committees, campaigns, regional and state boards. This includes framing, education and local organizing around the statewide campaigns.

Fundraising:

  • Draft and pitch fundraising proposals, organize fundraising events, and recruit members and donors.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience organizing issue and/or electoral campaigns required
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience as a grassroots community organizer required
  • A highly driven and motivated self-starter
  • Experience working within coalitions and with diverse types of organizations preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong facilitation/training skills
  • A creative approach to problem-solving, including strong analytic, strategic and planning skills
  • Ability to travel, work evenings, weekends, and long hours as needed
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively and cooperatively with a diverse membership and leadership base, boards, other departments within the organization and with other organizations and entities; staff management and mentoring experience preferred
  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing strategic activities and tasks with clear goals and objectives
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the values of Citizen Action of New York including a passion for racial and social justice
  • Knowledge of city and state politics preferred.
