Overview:
5810 seeks experienced lead organizers to facilitate the organizing of academic workers within the University of California. The successful applicant must be able to lead a group of staff, take part in strategic planning and coordinate in sync with statewide efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee, guide and lead group of organizers
- Create weekly and monthly plans to meet goals that include thought on appropriate strategy and tactics to utilize by organizing team
- Elaborate flyers and other written materials as needed
- Intensive outreach to workers
- Identify, recruit and train leaders
- Move workers to take collective action to advance campaign goals
- Organize around worker issues and concerns
- Work with diverse immigrant community
*Additional duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Ability to work with diverse workforce, collaborate as part of a team, work in a deadline-driven environment
- Proven experience in leading campaigns, projects and staff
- Proven experience with coordinating collective action efforts
- Ability to frame issues and follow messaging in accordance to mission and principles
- Ability to work independently and take initiative on tasks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for reliable transportation
- Knowledge of common office software
- Availability for periodic travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in labor organizing
- Experience leading multiple components of a campaign
- Experience with academic and/or public sector employment
- Familiarity with the research workplace
- Understanding of escalation model organizing
- Fluency in multiple languages
