Union Organizers help workers gain a voice in their work lives by engaging them in campaigns to build strong worker organizations or to form a union in their workplace.

CSEA SEIU Local 2001 is a union of over 20,000 dedicated public workers and retirees who provide vital services including education, transportation, public safety, conservation, municipal government, and child care to the people of Connecticut. For over 75 years CSEA has been a leading voice for quality public services in the state and the nation. CSEA is part of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), one of the largest and fastest-growing labor unions in the United States.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contact workers through leafleting, phone calls, one-on-one meetings, home visits, and workplace visits
  • Train, support, and coordinate workers in all aspects of their organizing efforts
  • Plan and lead direct actions, rallies, and other events
  • Carefully and diligently track work and outcomes

Qualifications:

  • Committed to economic justice and quality public services
  • Able to establish and maintain relationships with workers from varying backgrounds
  • Excellent listening, speaking, and writing skills
  • Able to take direction and work as part of a team
  • Capable of working independently to achieve campaign goals
  • Willing to work long and irregular hours including nights and weekends
  • Automobile and valid driver’s license
  • Bilingual English-Spanish preferred
