Arise Chicago, a leading workers’ rights organization, seeks a Development Director to lead and grow organizational fundraising efforts.

The position will report to the Executive Director.

Arise Chicago trains, organizes, and develops the leadership of low-wage, primarily immigrant workers to improve working conditions and advance working family policies. Begun by the faith community in 1991, Arise Chicago brings low-wage immigrant workers, faith leaders and congregations, and other allies together to create economic justice and social change.

Responsibilities:

Grant Writing, Tracking, New Source Procurement

  • Write and submit grant applications, letters of inquiry, and grant reports
  • Prepare and gather supplemental materials for grant applications
  • Review and maintain organizational grant calendar
  • Track all foundation information in database
  • Maintain relationships with foundation program officers
  • Coordinate and participate in foundation site visits
  • Prepare worker members to participate in site visits
  • Research and cultivate new relationships with local and national foundations
  • Prepare thank you letters to foundations
  • Facilitate quarterly meetings with staff directors to discuss fundraising plan progress and upcoming grant submissions
  • Prepare data and information for annual report of accomplishments to send to funders

Strategic Funding Initiative Management

  • Oversee annual organizational fundraising plan
  • Design and oversee individual giving program
  • Individual donor cultivation and relationship management
  • Coordinate annual fundraising event with Executive Director
  • Maintain records and oversee fundraising database
  • Coordinate board donation program

Qualifications:

  • Excellent grant writing skills
  • At least 2 years of professional fundraising, with extensive grant writing experience
  • Experience in researching and gaining new foundation funding sources
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve multiple goals under deadlines
  • Experience in and/or understanding of grassroots organizing
  • Experience interacting with immigrant community and/or religious community, a plus
  • Commitment to grassroots organizing and social justice values

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication and persuasive communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently with a minimum of supervision and effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work in a cooperative work environment by supporting co-workers in meeting their project deadlines and actions
  • Computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, google drive, basic social media, and fundraising database
  • Experience with Nation Builder database, a plus
  • Bilingual communication — written and spoken English and Spanish, preferred
