Job Summary:
The Chief Operating Officer has three primary lines of responsibility and two critical complimentary functions. The primary lines of responsibility are oversight of human resources, information technology and facility management of Aspen Place LLC. The two critical complimentary functions are to lead process improvement and innovation initiatives. The role of the COO is being a leader in how the work gets done on behalf of the ONA members.

Accomplishing the work of ONA requires the COO to hire, evaluate, train and retain great employees. It requires the COO to ensure that ONA have access and competency in robust information technology. It requires the COO to manage the work environment of ONA in a manner that enhances the work of member leaders and employees who use the ONA offices as their headquarters. Aspen Place building is also an LLC that needs to be managed as a business by the COO with support from the CEO and CFO.

The ONA operational, member and employee culture needs to promote efficiency and innovation as core values. These values need a leader who can convene employees and members across departments to participate in shared success in these areas.

The COO will be responsible to promote communication between ONA, the ONA Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the ONA Board of Direc¬tors and the staff union, the Union of United Staff (UOUS).

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in a field related to management preferred.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in human resources, information technology, facilities management, process improvement and innovation.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a human resource management position that worked with a collective bargaining contract.
  • Mature executive leadership skills with an emphasis on team decision making.
  • Ability to drive mission alignment with an association membership and union philosophy.
  • Approach to problem solving that exhibits calm, consistent, analytical and process integrity tendencies.
  • Advanced skills with software programs, digital assets and information technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to transmit messages and infor¬ma-tion.
  • Supervisory skills and experience.
  • Strong organizational skill to prioritize time and complete tasks and projects within defined time frame.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal tactfully with inside and outside contacts under pressure due to time constraints.
  • Strong attention to detail in order to record, process and transmit data; prepare materials; and complete other responsibil¬ities.
