Requirements/eligibility: Current enrollment in upper division undergraduate or graduate level course work.

Student Internships
The Eastern Michigan University chapter of the American Association of University Professors represents approximately 700 tenured and tenure-track faculty members. The association is seeking two paid student interns. The ideal candidates for these internships will be persons with research experience and/or experience with student organizations. They should also have a good understanding of universities as complex organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Track workplace concerns and contractual issues
  • Perform occasional office functions
  • Provide logistical support to association officers as they organize and/or facilitate workshops, action teams, meetings, rallies, actions, campaigns, etc.
  • Conduct research on contractual issues and trends in higher education
  • Assist in the drafting of various internal and external communications and other documents
  • Help to maintain association records (membership, union activities, databases)
  • Represent the association to student groups on EMU’s campus
  • Work with association officers to build social media presence for the association

Qualifications

  • Experience working with progressive student and/or community organizations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of labor unions, labor rights and social justice principles
  • Proficiency in various software applications (Word, Excel, Adobe), social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), and WordPress.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing social media accounts for a non-profit or student organization
  • Ability to edit graphics and create images for social media.
  • Videography/photography experience
  • Familiarity with research databases
  • Good understanding of the culture and issues of higher education

Period of internship: Late September 2017-April 2018

Pay Range: $13 for undergraduate students, $15 for graduate students
