Job Description
This position is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of a progressive union-wide bargaining program.   ATU represents members at many inter-national corporations requiring a strategic and coordinated bargaining program.  This program includes setting goals and working with experienced negotiators from Local bargaining committees and on ATU staff to achieve those goals using sophisticated bargaining and contract campaign strategies in multiple cities.

From streetcar operators in Toronto, to bus drivers in San Diego, ATU represents the men and women who help move the United States and Canada. Our members are the bus driv-ers, rail operators, mechanics, station attendants and other support personnel who make safe, efficient, and affordable public transportation possible.  The ATU continues to stand up for the fair treatment of transit industry workers, their health and safety, and their right to a decent living and promotes public transit as a “green” transportation alternative.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Multiple years of successful experience bargaining union contracts, developing and implementing bargaining and contract campaign strategies and coordinating major pro-jects.
  • Experience working with Local Unions, staff and officers to accomplish goals.
  • Creativity and drive to build power and make a difference.
  • Experience and ability to form coalitions in communities and with elected
  • officials to support bargaining and public transit.
  • Commitment to use multitude of ways to fight for equity and social justice.
  • Credentials and ability sufficient to lead very experienced negotiators
  • Legal degree a plus
