Based in Billings, MT

Job Description:
The Montana Nurses Association (MNA) is the professional nurses association for registered nurses in Montana. Within MNA we have a labor program and are the only professional nurse union in the state. We currently represent 31 facilities and approximately 2330 registered nurses for collective bargaining. This full-time position will work directly with MNA and the American Federation of Teachers Nurses and Health Professionals (AFTNHP) to develop and implement internal membership engagement campaigns, external organizing campaigns, community engagement activities, and other organizing needs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop internal organizing plans based on working conditions and external MNA organizing campaigns/targets as directed by the MNA Labor Program Director.
  • Coordinate organizing efforts directly with MNA staff and members and assist local unions with the development and implementation of internal organizing and membership growth plans.
  • Guide and empower local unit leaders and activists to manage local union responsibilities.
  • Develop and provide trainings for local union members on organizing, member, and community engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years or more of grassroots organizing experience (union experience preferred), including membership building, leadership development, and campaign development and implementation.
  • Healthcare organizing experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of labor issues particularly as they relate to healthcare.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to listen actively and have an organizing conversation, including addressing common objections and questions.
  • Working familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and using databases for organizing purposes.
  • Willingness to work long and/or flexible hours and travel occasionally in-state and nationally.
  • Ability to think and work independently and without constant direction and oversite.
  • College degree preferred.
