Title: Associate Counsel, Temporary

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Litigation of discipline matters for NYSUT members.
• Litigation of matters for NYSUT, local unions and members on a wide range of issues in arbitration, State and Federal agencies and courts.
• Providing legal advice on a wide spectrum of government and employment related matters.
• The formulation of legal agreements in employment and other contexts.
• Creation of pleadings, memoranda of law, position statements and legal opinions.
• Education and training programs for NYSUT staff, local affiliates and NYSUT members.
• Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.

Experience:

• Minimum 2-6+ years trial and writing experience relevant to labor litigation.
• Substantial knowledge in the area of labor and employment law.
• Experience in public sector labor law.
• Some experience in private sector labor law a plus.
• Knowledge of and participation in employee discipline systems very helpful.
• Experience in the review and preparation of settlement agreements.
• Litigation experience.

Qualifications:

• Admitted to the New York Bar
• Knowledge of the American Labor movement and its objectives is preferred.
• Ability to work with and relate to others.
