This is an internal posting for Security Division, Internal Organizer in the Los Angeles, California pursuant to the BSSU Contract.
SEIU USWW (Los Angeles) represents more than 40,000 members across California with plans to organize thousands more. Together, as part of the national Stand for Security campaign, thousands of low-wage security officers have united in SEIU to win improved wages, health care and respect on the job.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize members and worksite actions;
- Participate in negotiations and contract campaigns;
- Perform regular worksite visitations and conduct site meetings;
- Be a direct liaison between members and the Members Resource Center;
- Effectively resolve worksite disputes and problems of membership;
- Participate in worker/ steward meetings and trainings;
- Lead mobilization and turnout for actions and meetings;
- Maintain accurate worksite (building and worker) information;
- Communicate with company supervisors and managers;
- Conduct effective house visits and one on one communication;
- Plan own work and make weekly/monthly plans from larger goals with appropriate training and supervision
- Conduct worker and committee meetings, including developing meeting agendas.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Commitment to social justice
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively plan and implement work and manage time, as part of a team and individually
- Ability to work long and irregular hours
- Experience and knowledge of computer programs is a plus (including word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet and database software)
- Driver’s license and reliable car
