Director
Labor and Economic Justice Program

Based in Washington, DC

We are excited to share that the Sierra Club is hiring the Director for our Labor and Economic Justice Program. The Sierra Club’s work and collaboration with unions and worker organizations is a top priority for the organization. Tackling climate change and creating a sustainable and equitable economy requires a close partnership with workers and the organizations that represent them. We seek a leader capable of forging a shared vision for a clean energy economy that promotes workers’ interests while addressing the pollution caused by our current reliance on fossil fuels. The successful candidate must possess an intersectional analysis and be able to demonstrate a commitment to equity, inclusion, and justice.

The Director needs the gravitas to represent the Sierra Club to our Labor partners and to engage our volunteer leaders, staff and 3.5 million members and supporters to advance economic justice and the shared interests of the labor, environmental justice and climate justice movements. We are looking for a principled leader capable of acting with grace and seizing opportunities for movement and relationship building amid situations where external and internal tensions come to the fore. Our ideal candidate has a strategic vision for leveraging the Sierra Club’s assets to advance worker and economic justice nationally and internationally. We also seek someone able to act with empathy, sensitivity and sympathy as they navigate high profile, challenging situations.
