Overview: SEIU Local 105 is looking for a researcher for healthcare and property services growth, government and corporate accountability, and contract campaigns. The position will be based in Denver, CO, but may require some travel. We are looking for self-starting, tech savvy, intellectually curious people with a strong belief in economic and social justice who are excited about developing expertise in new areas of corporate research.

• You are proficient in a wide variety of research methods to analyze the behavior of large and sophisticated organizations.
• You can understand complex relationships and structures in politics and economics, and persist in finding the right answers.
• You are methodical and can break down and simplify highly technical issues.
• You can develop and implement strategies across teams and create sophisticated products to inform or implement strategy.
• You are not shy about talking with workers to document the effect of low-wage jobs on families and communities.
• You have the ability to plan and execute short-term and long-term campaigns.

Purpose: This position is responsible for research and strategic analysis in support of local and national campaigns that challenge America’s largest corporations to take responsibility for how their business practices affect working families and their community.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Independently gather and accurately summarize and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data and information in support of SEIU Local 105’s program.
• Proactively identify and cultivate new sources of information.
• Deliver thorough, clear, concise and accurate written and verbal communications for different internal and external audiences and tailor the message and format accordingly.
• Support teams in costing analysis and information gathering in preparation for collective bargaining.
• Develop campaign plans based on strategy while recognizing potential obstacles.
• Foster productive discussions in areas of expertise and serve as a resource to others in the department and within the larger union.
• Take role in leading projects and meetings; take lead in building a culture committed to diversity, inclusion, effectiveness, honesty, and respect.
• Develop and implement weekly work plans; effectively edit own work and meet deadlines.
• Report to supervisor progress and obstacles in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as required to support SEIU Local 105 and its mission.

Education and Experience:
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, statistics, labor relations or a related field and two (2) years’ experience in research, with demonstrated ability in quantitative or qualitative research. Student experience may be acceptable depending on quality and complexity of the research conducted.

Equivalency
A combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Knowledge of research techniques and processes.
• Knowledge of quantitative techniques and analysis.
• Skilled in the use of personal computers, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and, database programs and on-line research services. Strong consideration given if proficient in LexisNexis, BidNet, and commercial real estate databases.
• Ability to analyze financial data, corporate structures and market data in multiple industries.
• Ability to understand and recognize how the public persona of corporations and corporate officials impact their operations.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Ability to analyze, craft, and research public policy initiatives and their impact on working families.
• Strong consideration given to proficient or fluent speakers of a language other than English (Spanish strongly preferred).

Physical Requirements:
Work is generally performed in an office setting. Long and extended hours and some travel required,
often including nights and weekends.
