The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the Alaska Public Employees Association are seeking a full-time organizer to work with elected local leadership to facilitate membership activism, build internal organization, and identify and develop worksite leaders.
Position Description: This is a full-time, project organizer position. Yearly total compensation for is $50,000 per year with a comprehensive benefits package. Position will be based in Fairbanks or Anchorage and will require some travel throughout Alaska. Irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends will be required.

Primary duties will include:
- One-on-one internal organizing, including mapping the workplace, having conversations with potential, new, and current members of the local;
- Identifying, recruiting, and training potential leaders;
- Keeping detailed notes and managing confidential data;
- Supporting the local campaign planning process; and
- Motivating members and setting an example in organizing and meeting commitments.
Desired Qualifications:
- Union organizing experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Strong interest in and commitment to unions and the labor movement
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including oral communication, listening, motivational skills, and attention to detail
- Computing skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and databases
