About Santa Clara Residents for Responsible Development:
Santa Clara Residents for Responsible Development is comprised of four Union Building Trades Crafts: United Association 393, Sprinkler Fitters 483, IBEW 332, and Sheet Metal Workers Local 104. We are dedicated to strengthening our membership, expanding political influence in Santa Clara County, and strengthening the rights of all workers. We want our members to build and work in their own community and to be on projects throughout Santa Clara County. The MEPS acronym stands for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Sprinkler Fitters.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors development projects and identifies new targets and opportunities to secure future work:
- Coordinates activities associated with priority projects and targets
- Maintains and updates a comprehensive project tracking system
- Develops a strategic plan in Santa Clara County with explicit objectives and clear goals that are measurable and time bound with benchmarks to monitor progress
- Schedules meetings with developers and elected officials about specific issues for the MEPS team
- Identifies opportunities for public policy campaigns
- Report to and track tasks to the MEPS leads
- Responsible for preparing and monitoring budgets and expenditures
- Manages and directs the MEPS Field Organizer
- Responsible for working with researcher, media consultant, and others
Qualifications:
- Specialize in land use, public policy, and a familiarity with the Building Trades
- Skilled in written and oral communication
- Highly organized with a sophisticated understanding of the “big picture” of the labor movement including knowledge of economic and political trends
- Knowledge of organizational systems and strategies required for program development and implementation
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize work with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Experience participating in a leadership team and effective group facilitation skills
- Willingness to work long hours, including some evenings and weekends
- Experience managing and developing staff
- Highly efficient teamwork style complemented by independent work habits
- Knowledge of the elected leaders and political environments within Santa Clara County
- Willing to sign a conflict of interest form and full disclosure of other commitments
Compensation:
- Annual salary in the range of $100-$120k depending on qualifications and experience plus benefits
- Full-time position based on 40+ hours of work
