SEIU Local 500, is a progressive labor union, organizing and representing public employees and those who perform public services in Maryland and Washington, DC. We are a proud affiliate of Service Employees International Union, one of the largest, fastest growing unions in North America.

Local 500 is proud of the organizing track record we’ve built over the past several years, uniting more than 6,000 previously unrepresented workers into our union. We have formed a strong strategic partnership with SEIU and are targeting our organizing resources toward building strength in our industries.

We have an immediate opening for an organizer. Organizers work under the direction of the Organizing Director and are responsible for executing organizing strategies and tasks that contribute to building a successful, effective organizing program. Some of the responsibilities include but are not limited to recruiting and developing work site leaders, establishing effective organizing committees, developing union campaign literature, providing ongoing assessments of worker support for organizing.

This position will require long and irregular hours, depending on the campaign needs.

Qualifications and Education
College degree preferred High School diploma required, and a minimum of one year experience as a union organizer or comparable experience working for a nonprofit organization. An applicant for this position must demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, basic computer knowledge, and a willingness to work long, often irregular hours. Previous experience with another labor organization or nonprofit organization is preferred.
