Based in South St. Paul, MN
AFSCME MN Council 5 is currently taking applications for the position of Organizer. This position is based out of the South St. Paul office. This position will have full-time organizing responsibilities working primarily to organize new units of workers.
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Building and maintaining relationships with non-union workers, members, and staff
- Identifying and developing worker leaders
- Developing and guiding worker committees
- Empowering workers to build community and act to improve their working conditions
- Visiting workers at their homes and worksites
- Working with teams of members and staff on organizing campaigns, focused on non-union workers
- Mapping and charting workplaces and relationships
- Facilitating a variety of trainings
Applicants must have:
- A commitment to social and economic justice, equity, and inclusion
- Skills to professionally communicate, in various forms, and maintain open dialogue with people
- The ability to inspire and motivate others to action
- The ability to respectfully work with and relate to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- A willingness to learn, share, and encourage the growth of other people
- The ability to navigate complex interpersonal relationships
- Ability to work under pressure, independently, and with limited supervision
- A valid driver’s license and the willingness to travel
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours with flexibility
