Immediate Supervisor: Director of Grievances and Disputes Resolution

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Paralegal certificate from an accredited paralegal program or equivalent secretarial / business school training. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use legal databases.
  • 5 years previous employment in an office environment and 2-3 years’ experience as a paralegal. Airline experience preferred.
  • Legal research and writing skills
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Word Perfect, Microsoft Outlook, Excel,Adobe, and PowerPoint.
  • Detail oriented; highly developed organizational skills; ability to handle multiple tasks with ease.
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as in take point for all electronic and paper mail, distribute mail to attorney, paralegal, grievant, and APA leadership in accordance with the mail policy.
  • Docket all dates for Section 20 and Section 21 hearings on the APA Legal calendar. Assist attorney in preparation for Section 20 and Section 21 hearings.
  • Prepare Pre-Arbitration Conference letter for attorney review and approval and coordinate exchange of papers with the Association and Company.
  • Coordinating with the Company and Association to schedule Initial Hearings and/or Appeal Hearings and notify all parties of date, time, and location of such hearings, and communicating with grievants.
  • Assist attorneys with grievance files, including drafting grievance paperwork and, if applicable, grievance appeal letters, opening and closing files, organizing documents in file, entering information into databases, implementing and tracking time limitations of grievances through the grievance process, preparing documents for hearings
  • Prepare weekly reports and circulate to attorneys for review. Coordinate drafting of the monthly grievance status report and circulate to attorneys for review.
  • Perform word processing for correspondence, memos, reports, and other communications as needed in support of the attorneys.
  • Updates Legal publications. Assists in maintaining library and electronic research resources.
  • Assists APA Committees and performs other duties as directed by the Director of Disputes Resolution, Senior Director of Legal Affairs and Director of Pilot Negotiating and Contract Administration.
