Field Staffer

Region 1 (Macon, Albany, Columbus), GA

Georgia State AFL-CIO is seeking a Field Staffer for a field and electoral organizing position. Field Staffer will reside and drive program with Local Unions in Region 1 (Macon, Albany, Columbus). This is a termed position that ends on December 31, 2018.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Driving the coordination of all levels of Georgia AFL-CIO’s Labor 2018 political program. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Executing a field operation that includes Canvasses and Phone Banks
    • Coordinating Local Union Mail
    • Organizing Worksite Leafleting
  • Recruiting volunteers for all Labor 2018 programs. A strong candidate will be comfortable with meeting goals for volunteer recruitment and activity;
  • Keeping union leaders up-to-date on the campaign’s progress by preparing reports regularly and speaking to groups about the program;
  • Implementing Common Sense Economics trainings with local unions throughout their region. A strong candidate must be comfortable with public speaking and facilitating basic trainings;
  • Identifying and training volunteers who have further leadership potential;
  • Working with Unions in their area to support any organizing or contract negotiation fights;
  • Training volunteers and on-boarding other staff;
  • Reaching regional goals for all programmatic aspects, including but not limited to: developing worksites, local union coordinators and volunteer shifts to help meet the statewide goal for the Labor 2018 program.
  • Performing other duties as assigned and necessary based on the needs of the campaign.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency with either the Voter Action Network or Labor Action Network preferred;
  • A strong applicant will be able to work comfortably with a diverse team of activists and volunteers to make sure programmatic goals are met;
  • Basic computer skills required. An understanding of Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel) preferred;
  • Candidates with a year or more of Union organizing or campaign management experience strongly preferred.

Schedule and Compensation

  • This position operates on a campaign schedule which means work on evenings and weekends will be required.
  • Compensation will be between $3,000 and $5,000 a month, depending on experience.
  • As a termed employee of Georgia AFL-CIO, this staffer will receive a healthcare stipend and accrue some PTO during the cycle.
  • Georgia AFL-CIO will cover all appropriate travel expenses and necessary reimbursements.
