Based in the CWA Headquarters in Washington, DC

The Human Rights department of CWA seeks to advance the work of the union as it relates to broader issues of social justice: women’s rights, immigrant justice, racial justice, religious minorities, and LGBT issues.

We are committed to fully engaging union members across the country in this important work. To accomplish this, we are looking for a Campaign Lead who is highly driven, has strong interpersonal and communication skills, and who is committed to this vision of how to grow our union.

The Campaign Lead will help to direct & lead a broad campaign to grow and develop effective Human Rights Committees across CWA locals nationally, primarily through the development of new union activists who are committed to this work. The person in this position will also work to deepen support and partnership with grassroots community organizations actively engaged with members around campaigns related to CWA’s broader goals for racial & economic justice.

Job Qualifications

  • Have at least 2+ years of demonstrated campaign experience in labor or community organizing, political or legislative work, campaigns or other movement building.
  • Have experience developing and facilitating curriculum on issues related to social justice (preferred by not required).
  • Have demonstrated commitment to economic and social justice and the labor movement.
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Have advanced communication skills, both verbal and written.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and/or support growth of Human Rights & Women’s committees in targeted locals
  • Identify and develop new union activists to engage in organizing activities as well as broader economic & social justice work
  • Create & facilitate educational materials related to Human Rights campaign to train locals, staff & community partners
  • Develop and manage a campaign budget
  • Identify and work with CWA Locals and community partners
  • Track the work of locals and activists participating in CWA’s Human Rights work and produce regular reports to evaluate progress & success of the program
  • Responsible for evaluation reports every six (6) months
  • Other duties assigned

  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours & travel frequently
  • Must be located in Washington, DC
