Communications Associate and Data Specialist

Based in Malden, MA

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gather and write content for weekly e-newsletter, website, Facebook, and twitter; incorporate national AFL-CIO and other partner content into Massachusetts communications.
  • Post and update on a regular basis all content for weekly e-newsletter (Action Network), website and Facebook; assist Communications Coordinator to maintain an active twitter and other social media presence.
  • Assist the President with scheduling, research, and administrative tasks to ensure timely response to emails, mail, and phone messages and to ensure effective coordination and planning around his/her schedule.
  • Research issues and write talking points for President’s speeches at rallies, conferences, etc.
  • Help coordinate and maintain all organizational list serves and databases, track participation in conventions, conferences and trainings; help develop recruitment and tracking systems; serve as back-up for per capita system.
  • Maintain up-to-date resources, for internal use and on the website, on elected officials, including State House contact information, committee assignments, and votes; track all legislative and issue activity that impacts unions and the lives of working families, help monitor and calculate labor voting records of elected officials.
  • Research and write educational materials on candidates or specific legislative topics.
  • Participate in electoral, educational, organizing, and solidarity activities as needed.
  • Other related duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with databases; knowledge of Action Network a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of social media tools essential.
  • Familiarity with unions and labor movement structure a plus, and a commitment to building a strong labor movement dedicated to economic, social and racial justice a must.
  • Political campaign, legislative or grassroots organizing experience a plus.
  • Some Spanish language proficiency a plus.
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends as needed and occasional long hours.
  • Willing to travel on occasion within Massachusetts (office located in greater Boston; T accessible)

Minimum starting salary $40,000; salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefit package including defined benefit pension.
