Based in San Bernardino County, CA
Introduction
This is a one-year Project Organizer position. While this position will be managed from the USW Headquarters, a majority of time will be spent working directly on a campaign in San Bernardino County, California. The Project Organizer should have campaign organizing experience and is expected to work directly with employees. They should be self-motivated and committed to workers’ rights to unionize. They should be able to communicate well with workers from diverse backgrounds and with workers from a wide range of industries and professions. The Project Organizer must be able to work a flexible schedule and travel regularly. They are expected to spend a majority of time out in the field. Multi-Lingual individuals, women and people of color are encouraged to apply.
Major Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Have the ability to work independently
- Be able to probe a work place and initiate a campaign.
- Have the ability to map out a facility.
- Have the ability to identify and develop employee leaders to help form organizing committees.
- Create accurate and understandable contact charts.
- Perform basic corporate research, including but not limited to, employer ownership and the specific products/services/industry.
- Analyze and compare various benefit plans, such as retirement plans and health insurance plans.
- Communicate effectively in one-on-one and group meetings with employees.
- Have the ability to plan and run an employee meeting.
- Perform effective house calls.
- Maintain database
- Produce well-written campaign materials and letters
- Train and mentor less-experienced organizers.
Job Qualifications
- Strong commitment to the labor movement and social justice work
- 1-3 years organizing experience
- Investigative research experience, including industry, corporate, legal and issue research
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to plan, write and edit high-quality campaign literature
- Ability to take individual initiative and to lead with a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Willingness to travel regularly, work long, irregular hours as needed, including weekends and evenings.
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English preferred
Salary: Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience.
