The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) is a union, dedicated to improving the workplace and the quality of life for all education employees and to protecting their hard-won rights. The Affiliate Services Division is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Full-Time Temporary Affiliate Services Organizer, who will be responsible working with locals to implement MTA’s Fund Our Future Campaign utilizing the communication structures created through our ALL IN Campaign. The duration of this position is for roughly 8 months (October1, 2018 – June 30, 2019).
The duties for this position include but are not limited to:
- Assist the locals in creating and maintaining a structure in each building that ensures member-to-member conversations occur.
- Engage and train individuals and local leadership teams on how to build and maintain structures to ensure that the Fund Our Future Campaign achieves its member engagement goals.
- Collaborate with locals to ensure that member to member conversations occur in every building in the assigned locals
- Works in concert with the Affiliate Services Division, local and elected leaders, and MTA staff in the development and implementation of a full program of organizational engagement in their assigned locals.
- Ensures that ALL IN-communication system is up to date and maintained in assigned locals.
- Develops a plan to recruit member leaders to assist assigned locals to establish their Fund Our Future Campaign and local issue campaigns.
- Works in cooperation with the appropriate program divisions of MTA to help ensure member needs are met.
- Interacts cooperatively with MTA staff and serves as a resource to other MTA staff on issues of concern to members.
- Utilizes the Voter Activation Network (VAN) to coordinate and organize member information.
To be successful in the role you will need:
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree preferred.
- Understanding of and commitment to the vision and goals of MTA’s Strategic Action Plan as well as the Labor Movement using a collaborative process to achieve those goals.
- Proficiency in using the Voter Activation Network (VAN) preferred.
- Knowledge of organizing strategies and significant experience organizing to promote membership and organizational engagement.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to successfully collaborate as a member of a team.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizing experience.
- Ability to motivate and inspire members to plan and carry out goals and timetables, to establish, maintain and enhance successful working relationships.
- Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
- Ability to identify and analyze issues of importance to union members.
- Self-motivated with attention to detail and responsible follow-through.
- Applied knowledge of common computerized business applications.
- Takes initiative and displays a positive cooperative attitude.
- Willingness to learn and apply feedback.
- Willingness to travel and to work nights and weekends.
- Automobile or personal transportation required.
