UNITE HERE Local 11 represents approximately 22,000 workers in the hospitality and multi-service industries throughout Los Angeles. They are housekeepers, bell men, food servers, cooks, dishwashers, bartenders and many other employees in the tourism and food service industries. Local 11 is presently seeking an Accounting Clerk/Payroll/HR Assistant. This position reports to the Executive Accountant and is a temporary position.
ACCOUNTING CLERK / PAYROLL / HR ASSISTANT
Summary: Accounting Clerk/Payroll/HR Assistant is responsible for basic record keeping within standard accounting protocol and policies of the Organization and capable of completing the cycle of payroll.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work with any or all of the following: cash and check receipts, cash and check disbursements, cash journals, general ledger, accounts receivables and accounts payable, bank reconciliation, and payroll activities, making sure that all HR records are accurate and up to date.
- Must establish and maintain relationship with other UNITE HERE staff to determine priorities in order to ensure that all projects, assignments, and tasks are completed in a timely manner and uphold adherence to all deadlines
- Assist with company financials and ability to provide insight on how to work efficiently in a busy and fast paced environment.
- Compiling reports and spreadsheets and preparing spreadsheets
- Must be able to maneuver effectively through Excel using formulas, properly and accurately manage staff expense reimbursements, and have basic knowledge of employee state/federal labor laws.
- Welcome newly hired employees to the organization by conducting initial orientation.
- Provide payroll information by collecting time and attendance records.
- Compile and update employee records (hard and soft copies)
- Answer employee questions and requests regarding human resources issues, rules, and regulations
- Completing termination paperwork and assisting with exist interviews
- Assist in payroll preparation by providing relevant data (absences, bonus, leaves, etc.)
- Provides secretarial support by entering, formatting, and printing information; organizing work; answering the telephone; relaying messages; maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Serving as a point of contact with benefit vendors/administrators
- Maintains employee confidence and protects operations by keeping human resource information confidential.
- Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Performs related tasks and projects as assigned.
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
- College degree or formal or on the job training/experience in bookkeeping practices. May include business school, vocational school or college courses.
- Full knowledge of all procedures.
- Excellent computer skills are required in all Microsoft applications, especially Excel and/or other financial programs, such as QuickBooks, ADP, MIP, etc.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong communications skills
- Proficiency in both English and Spanish, written and oral.
