Job mission:
The ITUC Geneva Office is responsible for the defense of workers’ interests in the International labour Organization (ILO). The ITUC Geneva Office provides the Secretariat of the Workers’ Group of the ILO Governing Body. It supports workers’ organizations in the meetings of the ILO governance structures (Governing Body and Conference) and other relevant meetings. It also works closely with Global Union Federations on issues related to the ILO.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director assists the Director of the ITUC Geneva Office and Secretary of the ILO Workers’ Group in the following main tasks:
- Coordination of the Workers’ Group positions in the ILO governance structures
- Preparation of notes for worker members in ILO governance structures on a variety of social, legal and economic issues
- Support to Global Union Federations in ILO sectoral meetings
- Participation in other ILO meetings to represent the interests of the labour movement
- Regular interaction with ILO departments
- Liaison with Governments’ missions to the UN and representatives of the Employers’ Group to achieve common views on ILO issues
- Participation in selected UN meetings
- Regular presentations to diverse audiences on a wide range of social, legal, economic and labour issues
Qualification, skills and experience required:
- Excellent command of English (written and oral)
- Excellent command of French or Spanish (written and oral) -additional languages an asset
- Very good writing skills
- Solid experience in the trade union movement, especially at international level; familiarity with the ILO an asset
- Very good analytical capacity
- Ability to work in team and to balance multiple demands and deadlines
- Good negotiating skills
- Ability to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds
- Good IT knowledge
