Strategic Research Associate

Based in Seattle, WA

Service Employees International Union 6 Property Services NW represents 6,000 janitors, security officers, and airport and stadium workers. We are seeking a new team member with strong data collection and analysis skills for the Strategic Research Associate position to help forward our goals of improving standards in the industries we serve, the working conditions of our members, and the communities we live in. Strategic Research collects and distributes accurate and timely information and contributes to data-driven decision-making to set and reach organizational goals. Strong candidates will have experience creating and managing databases and a desire to learn about the vast social-political-corporate arena in which we operate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage databases including Excel, Access and VAN;
  • Develop new, technology-driven ways to share data with team members and the public;
  • Collect and analyze data from both public and private sources;
  • Provide data driven, strategic guidance to achieve organizational and campaign goals;
  • Present research findings in both written and oral reports;
  • Assist in the creation of reports, factsheets, and policy briefs;
  • Respond accurately and punctually to information requests; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to the labor movement and socio-economic justice;
  • Demonstrated proficiency constructing and managing databases;
  • Proficient in database language (i.e. SQL);
  • Proven ability to solve problems and simplify complex ideas;
  • Eagerness to learn and disseminate new ideas and information;
  • Understanding of collective bargaining and/or community organizing campaigns;
  • Excellent writing, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Capable of working individually and as a team to meet goals and deadlines;
  • Willingness to work with our members and staff who represent a large array of races, cultures, religions and backgrounds; and
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and long, irregular hours and occasional travel.

Bonus Skills:

  • Proficiency in a second language (non-English);
  • Data mining and GIS-mapping;
  • Knowledge of the commercial real estate and/or technology industries; and
  • Labor, community, or campaign organizing experience.
