The Northeast Regional Organizing Project is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Higher Education organizer in Southern New England. The successful candidate will work on organizing campaigns for higher education professionals in Southern New England.

Job Description:
This is full-time position for union organizer in an organizing project supported by Rhode Island Federation of Teachers and Health Professionals and the American Federation of Teachers. Organizers are responsible for a variety of aspects of a campaign including contacting workers through one-on-one visits, building relationships with workers, developing issues-based organizing plans for assigned areas, and for recruiting and sustaining motivation of organizing committee members and activists. We seek organizers with a strong commitment to organizing for power for working people. Qualifications:

  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve goals.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership abilities and ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Must be competent in basic computer/web functions, including email and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of and experience in higher education and union, student or community organizing is highly desirable.
  • Ability to take direction and work well on a team.
  • Must be willing to work long and variable hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be available to travel including occasional overnights.
  • Proof of a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle required.
