Lead Organizer

The position can be based in any major US city.
The Committee of Interns and Residents, the largest resident physicians’ union in the country, is looking for outgoing, energetic, and intellectually curious candidates to fill a Lead Organizer position. The Lead Organizer reports directly to the Organizing Director. The position can be based in any major US city. Initial assignment will be in San Francisco, California.

CIR is a nationwide, progressive, member-driven healthcare union representing 14,000 resident physicians. Our vision is to be the national voice for interns, residents and fellows. We empower physicians-in-training to fight for excellence for our patients, our training and our healthcare system through organizing, collective bargaining and advocacy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Lead Organizer performs a wide range of duties as assigned by the Organizing Director, including but not limited to the following:
- Develops and leads large organizing campaigns or multiple smaller campaigns including organizing, comprehensive campaigns, strikes, and political action.
- Works to coordinate all aspects of the campaign including vision, strategy, time-line, communication, community outreach, and politics. Coordinates and directs organizing staff including scheduling, assigning turf, debriefing, and training.
- Develops and implements training for staff and worker leaders on the campaign to further develop skills and understanding of the campaign.
- Provides feedback to staff on their performance while on the campaign. Provides information on staff performance to the Organizing Director.
- Assists in the development of strategic organizing plans.
- Oversees management of the campaign database, list, and cards.
- Performs other duties as required to assist the Organizing Director.
- Must be available for frequent travel with overnight stays required. Long and irregular hours.
CIR is looking for candidates who have:
- Ability to meet deadlines and juggle a large workload in a fast-paced campaign environment.
- 2-4 years of organizing experience in the labor movement. Experience leading staff strongly preferred.
- Strong ability to connect with highly educated professionals of varying backgrounds in pursuit of a common goal.
- Ability to work independently while also being able to incorporate constructive feedback and direction from campaign leadership.
- An independent and critical thinker with the ability to learn and understand complex issues quickly.
CIR Offers:
- Competitive starting salary: $75,000-$89,000; commensurate with experience
- Excellent benefits package: health, dental, vision, disability, 401(k), pension plan and paid sick/vacation time.
- This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
