Job Duties
- Preparing press releases dealing with matters affecting and of interest to AFSCME Council 25 and its affiliates;
- Developing and implementing internal and external communications programs to support or oppose political candidates;
- Developing and implementing internal and external communication program to support or defeat legislation;
- Developing, updating and maintaining of AFSCME Council 25 website;
- Developing, producing and implementing communication to AFSCME Council 25 members, including leaflets, email blasts, direct mail and/or website;
- Developing and implementing a communication program to support AFSCME PEOPLE;
- Implementing a Council 25 newspaper quarterly, digitally & otherwise effective;
- Performing other tasks and duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent oral communications and writing/editing skills.
- Knowledge of the labor movement, its goals and principles.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and communications software applications.
- Working knowledge of various media communication applications such as Facebook and YouTube, Twitter, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communications or related field.
- Two years of experience necessary to perform all duties of this position.
- Valid driver’s license is required along with appropriate car insurance coverage.
- Statewide travel.
