Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE
The WNYCOSH Worker Center assists workers, especially low-wage workers —immigrant, refugee, temp. workers, and native-born— to learn about their rights and organize fellow workers to improve workplace conditions. The ultimate goal of the WNYCOSH Worker Center is to create a programmatic space to foster an informed, engaged membership advocating for positive change in their workplaces, throughout WNY. Worker Center components include outreach, services, education, and advocacy.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and adapt training materials and resources tailored to low skilled, low wage, refugee, and immigrant workers
- Conduct worker rights trainings, specifically surrounding discrimination, health and safety, wage and hour, retaliation, and organizing rights
- Conduct outreach to workers in Home Health Care, Construction, Custodial industries
- Be available for some nights and weekends
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree and 2 years outreach experience or 5 years relevant outreach experience
- Demonstrated experience working with workers from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team
- Basic knowledge of labor/employment law
- Strong oral and written communication
- Strong interpersonal skills
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience advocating for workers
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOL, NLRB
- Experience with targeted industries
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, iWork applications, experience with Macintosh computers a plus
- Experience with social media, database management, and graphic design
