Staff Director

The Society of Energy Professionals (IFPTE Local 160) is seeking a Staff Director for a 12-18 month term.

The Society is a trade union representing 8,000 professional employees in 14 bargaining units in workplaces across Ontario, primarily in the energy sector. Reporting to the Society President and in conjunction with one other manager the Staff Director leads a team of 25 unionized administrative, specialist and servicing staff.

The position is located in the Society’s Toronto office. This is a non-bargaining unit position with a generous compensation package.

The successful applicant will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in administration, labour relations, or social sciences, or equivalent experience, more than 8 years’ related and relevant experience, some experience managing union or non-profit organizations, experience in organizing, formal negotiations and conflict resolution (e.g. counseling and grievance handling), superior communications skills, both oral and written, a basic understanding of the financial aspects of unions or non-profit organizations and will be capable of dealing tactfully and respectfully with the ongoing power and political relationships both inside and external to the Society and of dealing proactively with individuals with diverse viewpoints on controversial matters & forging high-performance teams.
