The American Association of University Professors-Biomedical Health Sciences of New Jersey (AAUP-BHSNJ) seeks to fill the position of Executive Director (ED). The AAUP-BHSNJ is a union representing approximately 1,200 faculty members employed by Rutgers University at various medical and health-related professional schools, including the New Jersey Medical School, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the New Jersey Dental School and the School of Nursing, as well as 200 faculty members employed by Rowan University at the school of Osteopathic Medicine.

The Executive Director reports to a governing Council, consisting of 12 elected officers and representatives. The ED is responsible for managing a staff of three and coordinating the overall work of the union, which includes: (1) bargaining of collective negotiations agreements with Rutgers and Rowan Universities (drafting contract language and proposals, chairing the union’s bargaining teams, and communicating with the membership about bargaining); (2) administering the collective negotiations agreements (preparing and processing faculty grievances; and (3) developing and supervising the implementation of the union’s internal organizing program to sign up new members.

A candidate should have at least 10 years of experience representing union members and bargaining contracts and at least 5 years of supervisory or managerial experience. Experience in the healthcare and/or academic sectors is a plus. Excellent communications and writing skills are required.
