Job Announcement: Public Policy Staff to NJ Healthcare Union
HPAE, NJ’s largest health care union is looking to hire for a position in the Public Policy Department which provides research, community and public campaign support for HPAE local union contracts, organizing and legislative campaigns.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct strategic corporate research and facilitate the implementation of a campaign plan in conjunction with other staff and healthcare leaders for organizing and contract campaigns;
- Develop and write analysis, testimony & position papers on industry trends and issues affecting healthcare workforce;
- Provide resources and materials to union membership on health care industry; legislation and regulatory matters;
- Identify and mobilize local leaders to engage in and support campaigns contract, political and community campaigns;
- Develop and implement public outreach, social media and communications strategy on behalf of HPAE;
- Participate in policy staff meetings and strategic development for annual planning;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a timely manner and track a variety of projects simultaneously.
Skills and Experience
- Up to 2 years prior experience in union or community organization or 2 years HPAE experience in same areas;
- Understanding and ability to conduct community outreach, legislative outreach and mobilization of members for legislative issues;
- Ability to conduct research into hospital finances, board of directors and other strategic information for contract support and /or organizing and to implement strategy based on information;
- Ability to implement press strategy for contract or legislative campaign: including paid and earned media, press conferences and events;
- Ability to write testimony and work with leadership in presenting HPAE issues to the public;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to make presentations and conduct trainings;
- Demonstrate ability to operate in politically sensitive situations, to exercise good judgement and think critically.
- Ability to work with healthcare professionals and all levels of staff to develop a strategy and a plan to address them; and/or
- Competence and experience in conducting a community and political support campaign for union contract efforts and/or electoral campaigns.
