In march of 2006 our Regional Council closed down the last hall in South Carolina; NOT because of corruption, apathy or lack of membership but rather "for the good of the brotherhood"...
Now, as a member in good standing, I must cross a state line to attend a union meeting, pick up a referral, of speak to a business agent in person.
I have been advised by my business agent that it is too far for him to travel in order to persue union contracts in my area, and that if I want to work that I will need to come to Georgia or NC to be employed.
To add insult to injury, the Council advocates that we apply for a new charter and start another hall in SC, regardless of the fact that the Council cashed in our CD's, put our hall and property up for sale, and effectively left us penniless.
Thanks for nothing 'brothers'... I'll be sure to sing the praises of my union while I'm competing with illegal aliens on scab jobs to pay my bills and support my family... I feel so secure now.
