I belong to a large union in California. We have 6 or 8 different categories of workers, all with different pay scales. All categories and pay scales are published on a rate card that is distributed to all. Except the unique category I work in does not appear on the rate card. I know the union has negotiated different pay rates with different employers for my category, unlike all the other categories which have uniform pay rates from shop to shop. When I ask for a rate card for my category, it is available as a one-time print-out from a union executive's computer and it shows the differentials in pay from shop to shop. Are unions required to publish and acknowlege all existing categories on their rate cards?

If you work for a public/governmental agency, then that's probably the way it is.

Exact pay should be private, though.
